Last January, Senior Manager Georgia Townsend passed her last CILEX exam and has officially sent off her last assignment for the CILEX Level 6 Qualification in Law and Practice. At Northwood Banks we have currently have many CILEX lawyers and it is exciting for her to join them.

She found time out of her schedule to tell us more.
CILEX (Chartered Institute of Legal Executives), is the second largest legal professional body in the UK, with a range of courses available. CILEX has become a well-recognised and sustainable alternative to the traditional law degree. Where it differs is that candidates can experience a more flexible and hands-on experience. The Legal Executives that qualify have already specialised in their desire area with three years of experience. This makes them an excellent and trustworthy choice to join companies like us, and those that reach the title of CILEX lawyer have just the same rights of audience.
Popular and notorious for their tough online exams, CILEX has gained attention in recent years. As well as the complexity of the exams, there are also many measures taken to ensure a completely fair exam. There are also many CILEX memberships on offer, not solely for students but for CILEX graduates to remain connected to the community. Options include the CILEX Affiliate Membership, CILEX Fellow and quite a few more.
Instead of a degree, Georgia started out with the Level 3 Qualification which required eight exams and two assignments. She’s now close to finishing up the Level 6 Qualification which is on par with a degree. For this she sat four exams, completed two assignments and 20 hours of legal work a week. This works well for Georgia since she’s such a busy bee in the office!
We're happy to say that Georgia has passed her last exam on Land Law and submitted her final assignment on Legal Research. This has now been sent off to the exam board, and she will find out in August. Afterwards, she is to complete one year of legal work. This usually requires three years but since she is already working in the field, she’ll only need one year. The only other aspect is a portfolio that details the work she has been doing.
Formerly interested in child development and psychology, Georgia has built herself up in a completely different path but has been thriving in her current job. Starting out at the company scanning over a decade's worth of paperwork, she eventually began work as an associate. From here she has continued to work hard, eventually managing multiple teams and last April was promoted to Senior Manager.
She may not be stopping here however, with plenty of further pathways ahead. Georgia has been considering CLC (Council for Licensed Conveyancers) Qualifications for Conveyancing and Probate. Alternatively, she has the option to sit an additional exam to become a lawyer and a Chartered Legal Executive.
One thing she learned and emphasised to us was that "Persistence is key", which we’re sure many of you can agree with.
For now, however, she's most looking forward to five months off from studying to catch up on reading!
